Hello to all,
This card was made to play at the Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge this week. The colors are Perfect Plum. Old Olive and Pumpkin Pie. Since these colors seem "Fallish" to me I wanted to go with a harvest theme. I made this card thinking of my dad. He wears plaid shirts, has a garden and a truck. So I brought out the retired Flannel Plaid background stamp and created the background by using the technique Joseph's Coat. The truck and pumpkins are from the Loads of Love set and Loads of Love Accessories stamp set. (page 58)
To make the background I used Glossy Cardstock and sponge daubers. I daubed on Pumpkin Pie and Old Olive in a random drift around the cardstock so that it was all covered. (I did let a little white show through.) Dry the cardstock using the heat tool for a few seconds. Wipe with the Embossing Buddy and stamp the Flannel Plaid in Versamark over the inked Glossy Cardstock. Now emboss with Clear Embossing Powder. When cool, I used a sponge and Perfect Plum ink and sponged the whole piece. The embossed areas will resist the ink and let the colors under show through. When all is covered with the Perfect Plum, I used a paper towel to wipe off the ink resisted on the embossed areas. Voila--what a neat background!
Next, I cut strips of Pumpkin Pie and used the Scallop Edge Punch on the edges. Then I put the scallop edge in my Paper Trimmer and trimmed off the rounded edges to give a blunt edging. After the pieces were adhered to the back of the Flannel background, I roughed them up with the Cutter Kit tool.
The Loads of Love truck and pumpkins were stamped in Staz-On Black on Watercolor Paper. They are colored with the Aqua Painter and stamp pads then snipped out with the Paper Snips. The Harvest Moon is Pumpkin Pie Textured Cardstock and the 1 3/4" circle punch. To draw in a little of the purple color, I sponged the edge with Perfect Plum. Also, the truck and pumpkins were sponged with the Perfect Plum. It gives a shadow effect. Then the flannel layer, moon, truck and pumpkins were boosted up with the Stampin' Dimensionals to add more depth. (I love those Stampin' Dimensionals!)
The Perfect Plum layer has the Flannel stamp in Versamark for added background.
If you haven't tried the Joseph's Coat technique I hope you will. It is a lot of fun to transform the white Glossy to beautiful backgrounds.
Have a really sweet day and be sure to visit the Pal Paper Arts blog and see all the entries for this challenge.
